Shania Twain recently shared her journey of forgiveness regarding her ex-husband’s cheating.
In a recent podcast episode of “Great Company with Jamie Laing,” the renowned singer talked about the infidelity that led to her divorce from Robert “Mutt” Lange in 2010. Their marriage ended after he had an affair with her friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
Twain expressed that despite the hurt, she finds it hard to harbor hatred or deny forgiveness to someone who is also a flawed human deserving of compassion. She said, “I don’t hate my ex-husband for his mistake. It’s his mistake, not mine.”
She also mentioned feeling sadness for her ex-husband, knowing he must deal with the consequences of his actions, but clarified that this burden is not hers to carry.
Twain and Lange were married in 1993 and parted ways in 2008, finalizing their divorce in 2010.
For Twain, forgiveness means releasing negative emotions, but it doesn’t necessarily mean forgetting. It’s more about understanding the other person’s wrongdoing. She may always believe that what happened was wrong. In the meantime, Twain married Marie-Anne Thiébaud’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, in 2011, and they remain together.
