Al Pacino is one of America’s greatest stars. Known for his exceptional acting talent and charisma, he has starred in numerous iconic films. From The Godfather to The Irishman, Pacino’s versatility and depth have earned him admiration and respect from fans and critics alike.
Mostly famous for his roles as tough and rugged characters, it’s surprising to learn that Pacino was once considered to play the lead opposite Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Although he was impressed by the young actress, he eventually decided not to take the role.
Pacino’s contributions to cinema are legendary. His performances, whether as a mafia boss or a troubled cop, are always captivating and memorable. The idea of him working with Julia Roberts, one of Hollywood’s beloved leading ladies, would have been extraordinary.
While it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in their iconic roles, Pacino would have been an interesting choice. Ultimately, he chose not to accept the part, despite being impressed by Roberts during their initial meeting.
In an interview with GQ, Pacino mentioned that he knew Pretty Woman would be a success but decided against joining the cast. However, he recalled being amazed by Roberts during the table read.
Julia Roberts indeed delivered a phenomenal performance, and Pretty Woman became a massive hit, despite some criticism over its portrayal of a controversial love story.
Later, Pacino and Roberts would work together in the Ocean’s movies. Yet, fans can’t help but wonder how different Pretty Woman might have been if Pacino had accepted the role.
