Johnny Depp is set to take on the role of Satan in Terry Gilliam’s upcoming film, titled “The Carnival at the End of Days,” where he will star opposite Jeff Bridges as God.
Gilliam revealed this casting choice in an interview with Premiere magazine, expressing his excitement about having Depp onboard for his next project. The film’s premise revolves around a scenario where God decides to wipe out humanity, and the only character who seeks to save them is Satan, played by Depp.
During his interview at the Red Sea film festival in December, Gilliam had publicly expressed his desire to work with Depp on this project. He described the film’s concept as a unique take on the relationship between God and Satan, with Depp embodying the role of a compassionate Satan who wants to rescue humanity.
In addition to Depp and Bridges, the cast of the film includes Adam Driver and Jason Momoa. Gilliam shared details about Bridges’ portrayal of God, noting that it would be a departure from the traditional depiction. In this film, God represents nature and possesses the ability to communicate with humans. Gilliam mentioned the challenges of bringing this vision to life, particularly in scenes involving God interacting with numerous animals, which will require advanced animation techniques.
While Gilliam is still finalizing the production schedule, filming is slated to commence in January 2025. For Depp, being part of this film marks a significant step forward in his career, following a period of personal challenges and legal battles. His recent projects, including a role in a French period drama and an upcoming directorial venture, showcase his ongoing commitment to his craft.
