Prince Harry is reportedly struggling with a lack of connection to his former friends from Eton and the army, according to royal commentator Tom Quinn. Quinn claims that Harry’s friends have avoided visiting him in California due to disagreements with his wife, Meghan Markle.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and moving to Montecito, California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made infrequent trips back to the UK. Meghan’s last visit was for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
Quinn told The Mirror UK, “He [Harry] misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan. As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”
Meghan has reportedly expressed concerns about returning to the UK without a private residence and adequate security. “Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential. Meghan will never return to the UK and stay with her husband‘s relatives,” Quinn added.
The couple’s future visits to the UK, along with their children, Archie and Lili, will depend on resolving these issues. “If the couple manage to find a permanent home and sort out the security issue they will certainly want to bring their children to the UK but it’s going to take a lot of diplomacy to get to the point where Archie and Lili are able to develop a genuine and warm relationship with their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis,” Quinn said.
These reports follow the couple’s eviction from Frogmore Cottage, their former UK residence, which came after the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare.” Harry is reportedly looking for a new home in the UK, suggesting a desire to reconnect with his roots.
