Gayle King assures fans that Oprah Winfrey is doing “fine” after a recent health scare. The 69-year-old ‘CBS Mornings’ co-host used a custom-made T-shirt to update the public on her friend’s condition. Oprah, 70, was treated for a severe stomach bug, which required her to be hooked up to an IV drip.
Gayle posted photos on Instagram, wearing a shirt with “OPRAH is FINE! Thank you for asking” on the front. The back of the shirt read, “She appreciates your concern!” In her caption, Gayle explained that she wore the shirt because “10 people” in the office had asked her about Oprah’s condition.
Earlier this week, Gayle mentioned that Oprah was unable to appear on her CBS show due to the illness. She said on Tuesday (June 11, 2024), “She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydrated, had to get an IV – it was a very serious thing.”
Despite the severity, a spokesperson for Oprah confirmed she was “recovering following a stomach flu” and had received an IV due to dehydration as recommended by her doctor. “She is resting and feeling better every day,” they added.
After Gayle’s initial message, some headlines wrongly suggested Oprah was hospitalized. Gayle clarified this on Instagram, stating that Oprah went to the hospital for an IV drip but was not admitted to a ward.
She posted a video of herself talking to Oprah on FaceTime, reiterating, “She was sidelined with a stomach virus that caused such dehydration that she went to the hospital to get an IV drip. I thought I made that clear but next thing I know I’m surprised to see headlines that scream ‘Oprah’s hospitalised!’ (She was NOT!) And I’m bombarded with calls asking if Oprah is okay.
