Miley Cyrus has candidly shared that she believes she inherited ‘narcissism’ from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, especially in light of his recent divorce.
The Grammy-winning artist discussed her personality during an appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. Reflecting on her famous father’s split from his wife Firerose, she remarked, “I also inherited narcissism from my father.”
Miley added, “I don’t know much about my own siblings except for the part that I was doing… I was moving to LA. That’s all I knew.” Despite reports of a strained relationship with her country singer dad, Miley praised her mom as a hero who guided her towards a successful career.
In another revelation, Miley shared that she doesn’t maintain friendships with other celebrities, saying it “doesn’t feel like my people.”
Unlike many stars, Miley chooses not to surround herself with a clique of celebrity friends. Instead, she prefers the company of her long-time friends.
Miley detailed her approach to friendships on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. She said, “I am not very active or a very active part of my community of other artists and entertainers and celebrities.”
However, there are exceptions to this rule. Notably, she mentioned Beyonce. Miley explained that when she finds herself in rooms with legendary stars, she often feels out of place.
“I’m like, super small, have acne, have braces on the back of my teeth, and I’m standing next to Mariah Carey, who is dripping in diamonds. And Beyonce was so kind to me,” she said.
During the same interview, Miley also shared insights into her relationship with her godmother, Dolly Parton, 78. Dolly played a crucial role in guiding Miley before her iconic performance at the 2024 Grammys, where she captivated audiences with her hit track “Flowers.”
“[Dolly] isn’t afraid to have tough conversations. A tough conversation I had with her: I told her ‘I’m wondering if I’m going to do the Grammys or not’,” Miley recalled. “And she said: ‘Of course you are going to do the Grammys, and you’re not just going to show up, but you’re going to show off. And you’re going to be everything that you are sitting right here in front of me.'”
Taking Dolly’s advice, Miley delivered an unforgettable rendition of “Flowers” that night, winning awards for Best Pop Solo and Record of the Year.
Miley also spoke about Dolly’s influence on other aspects of her life. The 31-year-old has previously discussed her decision not to have children, and in a new interview, she mentioned looking up to Dolly in making that choice.
“I love being an adult. I have a rule that I don’t look up or don’t look down at anyone. I just look, which allows me the clarity to see the world for what it really is and people for who they really are,” Miley explained.
