Meta’s WhatsApp has launched a new campaign featuring the beloved cast of the sitcom “Modern Family.”
In two 30-second ads, actors Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson return as their iconic characters: Phil Dunphy, Claire Dunphy, Cam Tucker, and Mitchell Pritchett.
These ads showcase WhatsApp’s seamless compatibility across different phones, addressing iOS-Android compatibility issues, and emphasize the platform’s strong user privacy policy.
To further highlight their message, WhatsApp collaborated with popular influencer “Dude with Sign” for a promotional post.
A Modern Reunion
First teased in a CBS Talk segment in early June, this short reunion aims to show users that WhatsApp can bridge the “blue and green bubble” messaging divide between Apple and Android users.
Fans of “Modern Family” get a nostalgic glimpse into the Dunphy household, though the ad isn’t a full reboot.
In the first ad, titled “WhatsApp gets the family group chat back together,” Claire (Bowen) expresses her frustration about the family chat turning green, causing blurry photos and fewer replies from the kids.
Phil (Burrell) rushes to answer a knock at the door, hoping it’s their kids visiting, but it’s a postal worker familiar with their messaging woes. She recommends WhatsApp for its compatibility with any phone and strong privacy.
The scene then shows Claire and Phil happily using WhatsApp, with their kids finally responding. Phil humorously asks, “What does IYKYK mean?” as the screen reads, “Message seamlessly with everyone.”
The second ad, “The family group chat moves to WhatsApp,” starts with Tucker (Stonestreet) and Pritchett (Ferguson) on the same couch. Pritchett feels left out of the family chat because his new phone takes blurry photos and reacts oddly.
