Fans are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the comedy movie White Chicks. During the celebration, a claim was made online that the film is racist, prompting a response from one of its stars.
White Chicks was released on June 23, 2004, and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. The film stars Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans as FBI brothers who go undercover as white women to stop a kidnapping plot. Although it wasn’t well-received by critics initially, it has since become a cult classic. During the online celebration, a post on X labeled White Chicks as the “most racist movie that ever came out of Hollywood.” Marlon Wayans responded by sharing the post and asking his followers, “Do y’all agree?!”
One fan replied, “The FUNNIEST movie to come out of Hollywood! I visited my home country, and they were showing it in Spanish, and EVERYONE was laughing! This movie transcends comedy, language, and generations.” Another person commented, “I’m white, and I found that funny as hell. Classic movie I wouldn’t want to imagine my childhood without. If people find it sensitive, then they shouldn’t watch it. I’m over here waiting for part 2!!”
A sequel to White Chicks isn’t off the table. The Wayans brothers have shown interest in making White Chicks 2. In 2019, actor Terry Crews, who also appeared in the film, said that a sequel was in the works. Although Marlon Wayans later clarified that a sequel wasn’t officially happening, he acknowledged that fans frequently ask for another movie.
Will White Chicks 2 Ever Happen?
“People always say, ‘Could you do a White Chicks 2 now?’ I think definitely,” Marlon Wayans told People. “A good joke is when you can make the people you’re parodying laugh. Who loves White Chicks the most? White chicks. In this environment, in this climate, we all need something to laugh at about ourselves.”
Wayans mentioned in 2021 that a sequel to the film was “necessary.” More recently, he said he would do the sequel, but he isn’t actively campaigning for it because it’s not his decision to make. He told Revolt’s “Drink Champs” in 2023, “If we do White Chicks, it gotta be me and Shawn [Wayans]… we’ll see. I don’t throw that into the universe because I don’t control it. But I would do a White Chicks 2.”
White Chicks is currently streaming on Hulu.
