The American Black Film Festival concluded with a retrospective of Denzel Washington’s career, marking ABFF’s inaugural event honoring outstanding black artists. One highlight was his spontaneous Facetime call to his wife Pauletta, eliciting laughter from the audience as she jokingly mentioned skipping a Father’s Day gift due to the unexpected call. Attendees were treated to an exclusive preview of the upcoming Netflix film, “The Piano Lesson,” a project produced by Washington and directed by his sons Malcolm and John David, who also star in the film. The evening celebrated Washington’s accomplishments on-screen and his significant contributions off-screen as a director, producer, humanitarian, spouse, and father.

Clarence ‘Divine Eye’ Maclin and Sean ‘Dino’ Johnson participated in an emotional panel discussion alongside the screening. “SING SING” is a poignant narrative of resilience and humanity, showcasing the transformative influence of art. The film features a remarkable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors and includes Oscar nominee Colman Domingo.
