A song titled “I Was Gonna Be” has broken records, becoming one of the most listened-to country songs globally.
The single climbed to No. 5 on the iTunes charts just two days after its release. Distributed by Chris Wallin’s label, Baste Records, the pro-life song continues to gain popularity. According to iTopChart, it is currently the fourth most-listened-to country song in the United States. The song is performed by 18-year-old Rachel Holt and conveys a strong pro-life message from the perspective of an unborn, aborted child.
The lyrics feature poignant lines such as, “The first thing I was gonna do/Was breathe and fall in love with you/But a couple of weeks before I saw the light/Mine flickered out when you changed your mind.”
The song’s statistics are impressive. Within three days of its release, “I Was Gonna Be” reached the top spot on iTunes’ most-played country videos list, as Holt shared online.
Ironically, the song almost wasn’t released.
In an interview with Breitbart, Wallin revealed he hadn’t planned to release the single. “I started writing this song for myself. I didn’t think anyone would have the courage to sing this,” he said.
The song’s journey began when Wallin met Holt, who was immediately moved by its anti-abortion message. She offered to perform Wallin’s lyrics, telling him, “I’m singing that song. I think a lot of the songs that girls my age listen to never talk about real life. And that’s what I want to do.” Holt, who holds traditional values, brought new life to the powerful pro-life lyrics.
Holt sings lines like, “Some don’t believe I’m a living soul/Just a bad mistake that needs to go/If my mama could have just seen my face/Maybe she would have had me anyway.” The song shows no signs of slowing down and continues to dominate the country music charts.
