Meghan Markle’s revelation about her struggles with media scrutiny and the lack of support from Buckingham Palace has captured widespread attention on TikTok.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex expressed her willingness to comply with the Palace’s directives, believing she would be protected. However, as negative media coverage escalated, she reached out for help, citing severe impacts on her mental health.
A TikTok clip of the March 2021 interview recently gained traction, receiving 8,000 likes and 395,000 views. The post highlighted Meghan’s account of not receiving assistance during a mental health crisis, despite her efforts, as she was not a paid member of the institution.
Meghan recounted, “I did everything they asked me to do—because I believed I was protected.” She described how, despite reassurances, negative stories began affecting her well-being. When she sought help, she was told it wasn’t feasible because she was not a paid employee.
Reflecting on her plea for support, Meghan emphasized, “This was not a choice; it was a plea for help regarding my mental well-being.”
Prince Harry also shared his perspective in his book “Spare,” recalling discussions with Palace aides nicknamed “The Wasp” and “The Bee.” These meetings aimed to address media treatment, but according to Harry, promises made were not followed through.
The revelations have reignited discussions about the treatment of public figures by the media and the support systems within royal institutions.
