The search for Katy Perry’s replacement on American Idol continues, with speculation mounting about who will fill her judge’s seat. Adam Lambert, the winner of American Idol, has proposed a candidate he believes would be ideal: LeAnn Rimes, a former coach on The Voice.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Lambert expressed his endorsement for Rimes, highlighting her recent collaboration on The Voice in Australia. “I think LeAnn Rimes would be great,” Lambert remarked. “I just worked with LeAnn Rimes down in Australia on The Voice, and she’s so lovely, so down to Earth — very spiritual and deep, but with a great sense of humor. I think she’d be good on the show.”
Rimes, known for her longstanding career in country music spanning several decades, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Not only has she achieved success in the music industry, but she has also served as a coach on both The Voice Australia and The Voice UK. This combination of musical expertise and judging experience positions her as a strong contender to guide contestants on American Idol.
In other developments regarding Perry’s departure, Kelly Clarkson, another American Idol alum and host of The Voice, has ruled herself out as a potential replacement. Despite her connection to the Idol franchise and her admiration for the show, Clarkson cited her commitment to her family as the reason for declining the opportunity.
“I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids,” Clarkson explained during an interview. “I want to be there as much as I possibly can. And it would put me in LA, and that’s why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much.”
Clarkson emphasized her priority of spending time with her family, noting, “I wanted a life for us. And we enjoy the park every day and we enjoy each other.” She underscored the importance of cherishing moments with her children while they are still young.
Meanwhile, Luke Bryan, Perry’s fellow judge on American Idol, shared insights into Perry’s decision to depart from the show. Speaking to Taste of Country, Bryan revealed that Perry had been contemplating her exit. “I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it — it wasn’t like a huge shock,” Bryan said. Reflecting on their time together on the show, he acknowledged their strong friendship and the journey they have shared, including Perry becoming a mother during her tenure on American Idol.
“It’s been a good run with Katy, and she and I have developed a great friendship,” Bryan remarked. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside Perry, noting the personal milestones they have witnessed together.
As American Idol prepares for its next season, the speculation continues about who will join the judging panel alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. With Adam Lambert’s endorsement of LeAnn Rimes, the discussion around potential replacements for Katy Perry remains lively as the show looks to maintain its legacy of discovering and nurturing new musical talent.
