Eric Roberts is known for discussing his famous family, even when he’s not supposed to.
On the latest episode of the Still Here Hollywood podcast, hosted by Steve Kmetko, the Dark Knight actor, 68, opened up about his sister Julia Roberts and daughter Emma Roberts. Despite being asked not to, Eric admitted to occasionally speaking about them.
When asked about his sister, Julia Roberts, 56, Eric responded, “You’ll have to ask her. I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her. She doesn’t want to talk about it.”
Eric then revealed that his daughter, Emma Roberts, 33, had also requested that he refrain from discussing her. “I stumbled and do,” he confessed. “I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do.”
Despite these requests, Eric couldn’t resist praising Emma, who he shares with ex Kelly Cunningham. “I’m in love with my daughter’s work these days,” he said. “I can’t believe how great she’s become. I’m so proud of her I can’t see straight.”
Eric expressed immense pride in Emma’s career, particularly highlighting her performance in Maybe I Do. “She overwhelms me with pride and just, ‘Oh my God, here she goes again.’ I’m just so happy to be her dad because she’s kicking ass. And I’m so proud.”
When asked if he contributed to Emma’s success, Eric responded, “Absolutely nothing. Except I gave her that name.”
Eric has had a complicated relationship with his family, including Julia. In a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair, he discussed his past drug use, which led to estrangement from Julia and their sister, Lisa Roberts Gillan. “I wouldn’t characterize it as a falling out. I was crazy about my sisters. Loved them, adored them,” he said. “They were precious to me, and we had times of great closeness. We all felt very protective of each other, but the hardest person to protect yourself from is yourself.”
Eric admitted to being difficult to be around during those times. “I was exhausting to be around: complainy, blamey, unable to enjoy enjoyment. Everyone in my world needed a break sometimes, and that must have included Julia.”
The siblings eventually reunited after Julia gave birth to twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, whom she shares with her husband, Danny Moder. The couple also has a son, Henry Daniel.
