Country music artist Ingrid Andress, 32, publicly acknowledged being intoxicated during her rendition of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby. Following the event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, her performance garnered widespread attention on social media, with many criticizing her vocal performance.
In a statement shared on social media, Andress confessed, “I’m not going to sugarcoat it—I was drunk last night.” She expressed regret for her performance, apologizing to MLB, fans, and the nation, adding, “That was not me last night.” Shortly after, she announced her decision to seek professional help, checking herself into a rehabilitation facility.
Andress, known for hits like “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking,” a collaboration with Sam Hunt, has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Despite her musical achievements, her rendition of the national anthem drew heavy backlash online. Criticism centered on her vocal errors and perceived disrespect towards the anthem.
Social media users expressed disappointment, with one commenter calling it “one of the worst renditions of the National Anthem I’ve ever heard,” and another questioning, “What the hell kinda National Anthem was that?” The incident provoked a range of reactions, from disbelief to harsh critique, uniting baseball fans in their disapproval of the performance.
As Andress begins her journey to recovery, she remains optimistic, stating, “I’ll let y’all know how rehab is, I hear it’s super fun.”
