In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Chet Hanks, the son of Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, discussed why his parents have prevented him from participating in reality TV shows.
Chet shared that his parents have been firm in their stance against him joining typical reality TV programs. “They definitely have said no to the usual reality shows,” he explained. “When the opportunity arose, we talked it over, and everyone agreed that it could be a great chance for me. We all thought it was perfect.” Despite their initial reservations, Chet noted that his parents were supportive of his decision, and he was excited about the opportunity.
He revealed that he had received several offers to join reality TV shows in the past but had declined them. “I had been offered reality TV opportunities for a long time,” Chet said. “I always turned them down because the shows were focused on drama, conflict, and gossip—just really negative stuff.”
However, Chet mentioned that the latest reality show offer was different. “This is the first reality show that isn’t about that kind of negativity,” he explained. “It’s more about personal relationships, showing a different side of yourself, and focusing on personal growth and being open and vulnerable.”
Previously, OK! reported that Tom and Rita had supported Chet during his battle with drug addiction. An insider revealed that the family, including Chet’s siblings, was deeply affected by his struggles. “Chet’s siblings were greatly impacted by his addiction, which caused some resentment at times,” the source said.
Despite the difficulties, the source emphasized Tom Hanks’s unwavering support for his son. “Tom never stopped trying to help Chet,” they added, noting the actor’s pride in Chet’s efforts to overcome his challenges.
