Jennifer Aniston expressed strong disapproval of J.D. Vance’s controversial 2021 comment about women without children, calling it unbelievable for someone vying to be the Vice President of the United States.
On Wednesday, Aniston shared a clip from Vance’s 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson on her Instagram Story. Vance, during his Senate run in Ohio, had labeled politicians like Vice President Kamala Harris as “childless cat ladies.” Aniston highlighted Vance’s opposition to fertility treatments in her post.
“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States,” Aniston wrote, referencing Vance as Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate. She added, “Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day.”
Aniston continued, “I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option, because you are trying to take that away from her, too.” This comment referred to Vance’s vote against the Right to IVF Act, which aimed to ensure the accessibility and affordability of IVF.
In the 2021 interview, Vance claimed the country was being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.” He specifically mentioned Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, stating that the future of the Democrats was controlled by people without children.
However, Harris is not childless; she shares two stepchildren, Cole and Ella, with her husband Douglas Emhoff. Similarly, Buttigieg and his husband Chasten are parents to twins.
Aniston has previously been open about her struggles with IVF and the challenges of public speculation about her pregnancies. In a 2022 interview with Allure, she said, “All the years and years and years of speculation … It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would have given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it.”
Reflecting on her experience, Aniston added, “I have zero regrets. I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”
