Taylor Swift expressed her profound shock following a stabbing attack at a dance class in Southport, England, which left three children dead and several others injured. The dance class was celebrating the music of the US singer.
In an Instagram post, Swift described the attack as a “horror” and said she was “completely in shock.” She added, “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone—families, first responders, and especially the children—is overwhelming. These were just little kids at a dance class.”
The incident has deeply shocked the UK. Authorities are scrambling to understand why such a devastating attack occurred in a country with strict gun laws and an ongoing crisis with knife violence.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene on charges of murder and attempted murder. Swift said she felt “at a complete loss” in expressing her condolences to the affected families.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two children on Monday, with a third child passing away the following day. Merseyside Police confirmed that a nine-year-old girl died in the early hours of Tuesday, July 30. The two other victims were girls aged six and seven.
Eight other children sustained stab wounds during the attack, with five of them in critical condition. Additionally, two adults were critically injured while trying to protect the children.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy stated that the attacker entered the venue armed with a knife and began targeting the children. She noted that the injured adults were likely attempting to shield the children from harm.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla also expressed their deep shock over the tragedy. In a statement posted on the royal family’s official social media accounts, King Charles said, “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also commented on the events, noting in a broadcast clip that the entire nation has been “deeply shocked” by the attack.
