Chris Evans has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the most appearances as a Marvel superhero. Known for his iconic role as Captain America, Evans surprised fans by reprising his role as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, at a recent Comic-Con event. This unexpected return has earned him the record for the highest number of feature film appearances as a Marvel character.
Evans now holds the record with a total of 11 feature film appearances, playing both Captain America and the Human Torch. His journey with Marvel began in 2004 with “Fantastic Four,” where he first appeared as Johnny Storm. He returned for the sequel in 2007. Evans later became widely recognized for his portrayal of Steve Rogers, or Captain America, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His last appearance as Captain America was in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” where he passed the shield to Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie. Since then, Evans’ status as Captain America has been left ambiguous—whether he is dead or simply retired remains unclear.
Why Did Chris Evans Reprise His Role as the Human Torch?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Evans explained why he chose to return as the Human Torch for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” He revealed that Ryan Reynolds, who stars in the film, personally invited him to reprise his role. Evans recounted, “I was thrilled. Ryan is a friend, and he texted me asking if I would be interested in revisiting a character from 20 years ago. I was immediately enthusiastic.”
Evans also praised Reynolds, saying that the actor’s humor and unique touch made the decision easy. He described Reynolds as having the “Midas touch” and noted that his self-awareness and ability to make jokes before the audience can make any role work, creating a sense of safety in the process.
