Peplum fashion is making a significant return, shedding its old, bulky image for a more refined look. Once known for its cumbersome silhouettes, the peplum has evolved into a chic and sophisticated style. Designer Nachiket Barve explains, “Today’s peplum features a subtle flare and is often made from luxurious materials like satin or silk. Whether it’s a structured top or a flowing dress, the modern peplum aims to enhance your figure.”
Recently, Priyanka Chopra Jonas embraced this trend at the Bulgari high jewellery collection event. Emma Stone also made a statement in a Louis Vuitton peplum gown at the 96th Academy Awards.
Designers JW Anderson and Christopher Kane have added a contemporary twist to the peplum, using stiffer fabrics in their latest collections. This updated style has moved beyond the runway and into everyday fashion. Peplums are now seen paired with oversized suits, wide-legged trousers, and maxi skirts.
Barve notes, “The resurgence of the peplum in 2024 highlights the cyclical nature of fashion. This trend is here to stay.”
