After six months of intense production, the second season of The Last of Us has officially completed filming.
Timothy Good, the show’s editor, took to Twitter to share the news, posting a series of photos from what appeared to be the wrap party for the season. In his post, Good congratulated the entire production crew, saying, “Wrapped! Congratulations to the incredible production crew of The Last of Us season 2. We will bring your hard work home now!”
With filming now wrapped, the series is on track for its anticipated 2025 release. The August wrap date suggests that the show could potentially air in the early months of the year. To put this timeline in perspective, the first season concluded filming in July 2022 and premiered on HBO six months later.
The upcoming season will see the return of series regulars Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, and Gabriel Luna. They will be joined by new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina.
In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused, Merced expressed her excitement for the new season and praised her co-stars. “Give [Kaitlyn Dever] the damn Emmy, honestly,” Merced said. “I’m so excited for people to see how incredibly well Bella and Kaitlyn did on this.”
Earlier this month, a brief teaser for The Last of Us season 2 was released. It showcased several scenes adapted from Naughty Dog’s video game sequel, The Last of Us Part 2.
The teaser also offered a first look at Catherine O’Hara’s unnamed character, who appears to be offering therapy to Joel in Jackson, the community featured in the first season.
Fans eagerly await the next chapter in this highly acclaimed series, with expectations running high after the success of the first season.
