Zach Bryan, the country music star, has deactivated his X account following backlash from a controversial tweet about Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
On September 18, Bryan shared a provocative message that sparked outrage among fans. He began his tweet with “eagles > chiefs,” referencing the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, which is significant as Swift is currently dating Chiefs player Travis Kelce. He then added, “Kanye > Taylor,” and concluded with the question, “who’s with me?” This tweet quickly drew criticism from Swift’s fans, known as “Swifties,” who felt the comment was offensive to both Swift and Kelce.
Many fans responded strongly to Bryan’s remarks. One commenter noted, “He knew not to mess with the Swifties,” while another remarked, “got all brave just to wimp out and deactivate.” The backlash appears to have prompted Bryan to leave the platform.
Despite deactivating his X account, Bryan remains active on Instagram. His recent posts indicate he has been listening to Kanye West’s music.
As of now, his Instagram Stories feature several songs by West, including “Good Life” from the album Graduation and tracks from Ye.
The rivalry between the Eagles and the Chiefs intensified recently when the two teams faced off in the 2023 Super Bowl, where the Chiefs emerged victorious. However, the more notable rivalry lies between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Their contentious relationship began infamously in 2009 when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. Although they reconciled briefly and even formed a friendship, tensions resurfaced when West included controversial lyrics about Swift in his song “Famous.” This led to further drama when Kim Kardashian released a recording of a private phone call between West and Swift.
The feud has continued to evolve over the years. Just last month, West referenced Swift in a song on his album Vultures 2, while Swift cleverly altered a song title to include “YE,” titled “thank You aimEe.”
Bryan’s tweet serves as a reminder of how quickly social media interactions can escalate. His attempt at humor backfired, leading him to deactivate his account amid a storm of criticism from devoted fans of Taylor Swift.
