Lady Gaga is poised to captivate fans once again with her upcoming single “Disease,” scheduled for release on October 25. This announcement follows the surprise launch of her latest album, “Harlequin.”
While Gaga has yet to officially confirm the single, her label, Universal Music, has created a pop-up site for pre-saves, connecting fans to Spotify and Apple Music. Speculation about the song’s title arose earlier this week when fans noticed a change in the capitalization of letters in some of Gaga’s song titles on streaming platforms. Rearranging the first letters of seven songs spelled “Disease.” Hours before the pop-up site gained traction, Gaga shared a playlist on her Spotify that arranged these songs to spell “Gaga Disease.” She previously hinted at an October release for her seventh album’s first single, with a September post indicating, “XX October: LG7 first single,” alongside key dates for her “Joker: Folie à Deux” press tour.
Gaga recently starred in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” a film that faced critical backlash and underwhelming box office performance. Despite studio claims that the film might break even, it risks losing between $150 to $200 million.
Just before the film’s debut, Gaga released “Harlequin,” an album inspired by her character. It features classic American standards like “Get Happy” and “That’s Life,” along with two original tracks, reminiscent of her collaborations with the late Tony Bennett on “Cheek to Cheek” and “Love for Sale.” The album debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200, marking her lowest entry for a full-length release.
Despite this, Gaga is enjoying success with her duet “Die With a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars, which debuted at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and has garnered hundreds of millions of streams. Her last studio album, “Chromatica,” released in 2020, was a commercial triumph, topping the charts and featuring the hit single “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande.
