Alice Fearn has been officially cast in the upcoming film adaptation of the acclaimed musical Wicked. The West End star will portray the character of Galinda’s mother in the movie, which is set to feature a star-studded cast.
The film will be led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. The ensemble also includes Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Tony nominee Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond. Jon M. Chu is directing this highly anticipated two-part adaptation.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the story explores the friendship between two young women in Oz—one destined to become Glinda the Good Witch and the other, the Wicked Witch of the West. The screenplay is being crafted by Winnie Holzman, who wrote the original book for the stage musical, along with Stephen Schwartz, who composed the score.
Recent behind-the-scenes photos featured in a special edition of People magazine confirm Fearn’s role. She will first appear when Galinda’s family arrives at Shiz University. Adam James has been cast as Galinda’s father.
The film also boasts a lineup of other West End stars including Sharon D Clarke, Andy Nyman, and Courtney-Mae Briggs. Additional cast members include Kerry Ellis, Georgina Onuorah from Kiss Me, Kate, Luke Bayer, Dianne Pilkington, Aisha Jawando, and Misa Koide.
Wicked Part One is set to hit theaters on November 22, 2024, while Part Two has been moved up to November 21, 2025. This adaptation promises to bring the beloved musical to a new audience on the big screen.
