Angelina Jolie to Be Honored with Desert Palm Achievement Award at Palm Springs International Film Awards for Her Role in ‘Maria’.
Angelina Jolie is set to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award for Actress at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Awards. This honor recognizes her performance in the Netflix film “Maria,” where she portrays the legendary opera singer Maria Callas.
Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Jolie’s work, stating, “Maria presents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend. Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music.”
Jolie joins a prestigious list of past award recipients, which includes notable actors like Adrien Brody, Nicole Kidman, and Colman Domingo.
Previous winners of this award include Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, and Renée Zellweger, all of whom received Oscar nominations in their respective years.
Directed by Pablo Larraín, “Maria” focuses on Maria Callas’s final days in Paris. The film explores her reflections on identity and legacy after a tumultuous career. In addition to Jolie, the cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The film will premiere in select theaters on November 27 and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 11.
Jolie is no stranger to accolades; she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Girl, Interrupted” (1999). She has also directed several acclaimed films, including “First They Killed My Father.” Beyond her film career, Jolie is known for her humanitarian work. She advocates for environmental conservation, education initiatives, and sustainable fashion through her project Atelier Jolie.
The award ceremony will take place on January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center during the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs from January 2 to 13.
