William Shatner and the cast of Back to the Future are among the distinguished honorees set to be recognized at the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards, a prestigious event hosted by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The awards ceremony, scheduled for February 2, will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City hotel and will include a unique initiative to support California wildfire relief.
This year, the event will incorporate QR codes, allowing both in-person attendees and viewers at home to contribute directly to the fundraising efforts. Fans can also tune in to the ceremony for free via ElectricNow and the Roku Channel.
Robert Holguin, president of the Academy, alongside awards producers Bradley Marcus and Kevin Marcus, expressed their hopes for this year’s event: “We hope the Saturn Awards will unite our community and genre family, much like it did after the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Coming together with both old and new friends is crucial during tough times. The Saturn Awards have always been more than about winning or losing—it’s a celebration of the movies, shows, and people we cherish.”
Shatner, famed for his iconic role as Captain Kirk in the Star Trek franchise, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Meanwhile, Back to the Future will be celebrated for its 40th anniversary, receiving the George Pal Memorial Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in genre filmmaking. Key representatives from the film, including actors Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, composer Alan Silvestri, and writer-producer Bob Gale, will accept the award on behalf of the movie.
The Spotlight Award, presented to exceptional works, will go to the creators and stars of Fallout. The Prime Video series, a post-apocalyptic tale based on the popular video game franchise, has garnered significant attention and praise.
The 52nd Saturn Awards promises to be a memorable evening, honoring legends and emerging talents within the world of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
