Timothée Chalamet’s decision to ride an electric Lime bike to the London premiere of A Complete Unknown made headlines during his global press tour. However, his eco-friendly approach to attending the event was followed by a £60 fine, roughly $73.45, for improperly parking the bike.
Chalamet shared this tidbit during an appearance on the French talk show Quotidien, where he explained that his choice to ride the bike was driven by a desire to avoid traffic.
“It’s ecological!” he said, but admitted the primary motivation was practicality — arriving at the premiere on time by bypassing the congestion.
The actor’s press tour for A Complete Unknown has been full of attention-grabbing moments. In December, he co-hosted ESPN’s College GameDay and later sparked a social media frenzy by dyeing his hair blonde to channel one of Bob Dylan’s iconic looks. These moves have contributed to the film’s success, with A Complete Unknown grossing over $51 million at the domestic box office.
Chalamet’s performance as Bob Dylan has garnered widespread praise, earning him nominations for best actor at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and BAFTAs. His role has positioned him as a likely contender for an Oscar nomination, marking a potential second best actor nod following his first for Call Me By Your Name.
Ahead of the film’s release, Bob Dylan himself took to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly endorse Chalamet, writing, “Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.”
Critics have echoed the praise. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman named A Complete Unknown one of the best films of 2024, highlighting Chalamet’s transformation into Dylan. He wrote, “Chalamet, singing in a nasal and slightly clenched voice, his tone as rock-steady as his gaze, sings out the lyrics as if they were an incantation…and at that moment, he becomes Bob Dylan.”
A Complete Unknown is currently showing in theaters.
