HBO has confirmed that the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us will debut on April 13.
Season 2 picks up after the events of Season 1, which adapted the first The Last of Us video game. This season will follow the storyline of The Last of Us: Part II, the sequel to the original game. Set five years after the first season, the new episodes feature a more battle-worn Joel and Ellie as they continue to face dangerous, infected creatures in their post-apocalyptic world.
New faces will appear in this season, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Additionally, Catherine O’Hara will make a guest appearance in an undisclosed role. Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Issac, the leader of a militant faction known as the Washington Liberation Front in Seattle.
The show’s creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who co-created the video game, will continue their roles as writers and executive producers. Both have directed episodes in the first season and will return to direct again in Season 2. Mazin recently shared with Entertainment Weekly that each of the seven episodes this season will offer dense, engaging storytelling.
“These episodes are high-calorie, dense meals,” Mazin explained. “We have seven episodes, and each one is packed with action, drama, and epic scope. You won’t be bored.”
