Regal Cinemas will honor the late Senator Joe Lieberman with a two-night screening of the documentary “Centered: Joe Lieberman.” Directed by Jonathan Gruber, the film explores Lieberman’s life and over 40-year political career. It highlights his dedication to the American people and his historic 2000 campaign to become the first Jewish Vice President of the United States. Lieberman passed away in March 2024 at the age of 82 and participated in the documentary.
In collaboration with Hidden Light Institute and Black Eye Productions, Regal will release “Centered” in more than 60 theaters across the country on March 18 and 19. Following these screenings, select theaters will host week-long runs of the film.
Additionally, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will feature screenings with prominent directors, including Bong Joon Ho, Judd Apatow, and Lilly Wachowski, as part of its spring programming. The “Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho” series will coincide with an exhibition opening on March 23, featuring special appearances by the Oscar-nominated director and discussions with John Carpenter and Steven Yeun. Fanny’s restaurant will offer a weekly menu inspired by Korean cuisine to complement screenings of “Okja” and “Parasite.”
The museum will also host a screening of “Barbie” on May 23, coinciding with the opening of the exhibit “Barbie to Anna Karenina: The Cinematic Worlds of Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer.” Other highlights include a west coast restoration premiere of Jean-Luc Godard’s “A Woman Is a Woman” in 4K, a 35mm screening of “Gas Food Lodging,” a nitrate print of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rope,” and a special screening celebrating the 20th anniversary of “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” featuring an appearance by Apatow.
These events celebrate both Lieberman’s legacy and the broader cinematic landscape, offering audiences a chance to engage with significant films and filmmakers.
