The Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) has announced that Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams will be honored with the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award in 2025. This award recognizes young, influential songwriters and will be presented during the 54th Annual SHOF Induction and Awards Dinner on June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
Established in 2004, the Hal David Starlight Award is named after SHOF Chairman Emeritus Hal David, who dedicated his career to supporting emerging songwriters. This honor is given to young artists making a significant impact with their original music. Abrams joins an esteemed group of past recipients, including SZA, Post Malone, Lil Nas X, Halsey, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift.
Other inductees for this year’s event include music legends like George Clinton, Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, and Patrick Simmons of the Doobie Brothers, as well as industry icons like Ashley Gorley and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.
Nile Rodgers, SHOF Chairman, praised Abrams for her remarkable contributions to music. “Gracie Abrams is leading the way in the music industry with her award-winning songwriting, powerful stage presence, and exceptional artistry,” he said. “We are thrilled to honor her with the 2025 Hal David Starlight Award.”
Abrams, a writer for Universal Music Publishing Group, began her songwriting journey at just eight years old. She released her debut single in 2019 and followed it with her first album, Good Riddance, in 2023.
She received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards and went on to release her platinum-selling second album, The Secret of Us. This album earned her another Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
