Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy series, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” has announced two significant additions to its cast for the upcoming third season. Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan will join the ensemble, with Bower becoming a series regular and Marsan taking on a recurring role. The new season is currently in pre-production and is set to begin filming this spring.
Jamie Campbell Bower is best known for his portrayal of Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” His diverse filmography includes roles in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I,” and “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.” Bower’s character in “The Rings of Power” is rumored to be a “handsome high-born knight,” sparking speculation about his potential role as a significant figure in Middle-earth, possibly even Galadriel’s husband Celeborn.
Eddie Marsan, known for his role as Terry Donovan in Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” has a long list of credits including “Deadpool 2,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “V for Vendetta.” Marsan’s character is described as having a brother, leading to speculation that he might portray a dwarf, possibly Durin’s brother.
“The Rings of Power” is a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, set thousands of years before the events of the original series. The show follows the forging of the Rings of Power and the rise of Sauron. Season 3 will take place several years after the events of Season 2, at the height of the war between the Elves and Sauron, as Sauron crafts the One Ring.
The returning cast includes Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, and Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, among others. The series is showrun by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who also serve as executive producers alongside Lindsey Weber and others.
