Jeff Daniels has been cast in a guest role for the upcoming third season of Shrinking on Apple TV+, Variety has confirmed.
Daniels will portray Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) father in the dramedy series, which was renewed for its third season in October 2024. The series, which has garnered critical acclaim, also stars Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and Ted McGinley.
This marks Daniels’ latest foray into television in recent years. He previously starred in Showtime’s American Rust (later moved to Amazon Prime Video) and the limited series The Comey Rule. Daniels has also been featured in several other acclaimed TV shows, including A Man in Full, The Newsroom—for which he won an Emmy in 2013—Godless (another Emmy win in 2018), and The Looming Tower.
In addition to his television work, Daniels is an accomplished film actor, with notable performances in The Squid and the Whale, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Pleasantville, Good Night and Good Luck, and the Dumb & Dumber films.
Shrinking Season 2 aired from October to December. Both Segel and Williams received Emmy nominations for their performances in the first season.
The show, co-created by Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein, is produced by Warner Bros. Television in association with Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, and other key figures, including Neil Goldman and James Ponsoldt, serve as executive producers. The third season will also feature Ashley Nicole Black and Bill Posley as executive producers.
