Gravitas Ventures has secured the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for Konstantin Khudyakov’s film, “I’m Beginning to See the Light,” acquired from Hoody Films. The movie, starring Danny Huston, Abbie Cornish, Brandon T. Jackson, Jamie Chung, Lucy Punch, and Mark Boone Junior, is scheduled for release on digital platforms and cable video on demand in May.
The film is set against a stunning coastal backdrop and follows Huston’s character, Ezra, a jazz musician who retreats to a secluded lighthouse after a sudden family loss. As the new caretaker, Ezra meets others who are also dealing with their pasts. Through music, memories, and connections with others, he begins to find new purpose in life.
Director Konstantin Khudyakov expressed his long-held desire to create a film centered on jazz and its role in navigating grief and finding meaning. He believes the film will resonate with modern audiences.
Gravitas Ventures Acquisitions Manager Mackenzie Maguire praised the film for its unique perspective on grief, highlighting Khudyakov’s exceptional direction.
This marks Khudyakov’s feature film debut in the U.S., following a successful career in Eastern European cinema. The screenplay was written by Mark Bacci, with jazz elements contributed by Walter Afanasieff. Maz Makhani served as cinematographer, and the film was produced by Pavel Hoodyakov, with Vitaliy Orel, Alex Saveliev, Mark Bacci, and Cassian Elwes as executive producers.
