A new television series based on the works of renowned author John le Carré is gaining momentum, with Matthew Macfadyen set to star as the iconic character George Smiley. The project, titled “Legacy of Spies,” is being produced by The Ink Factory and will be distributed by Fifth Season.

George Smiley: Macfadyen will portray Smiley, a central figure in several of le Carré’s novels, including “The Spy Who Came In From The Cold,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and “The Honorable Schoolboy.” The series will also draw from other novels and some unpublished works.
Script and Production: The initial scripts have been written by Stephen Cornwell and Clarissa Ingram, with Graham Yost serving as an executive producer. Yost is known for his work on “Silo,” “Justified,” and “Slow Horses”.
Market Interest: The project has already been presented to potential buyers in both the U.S. and U.K., with multiple offers on the table.
Matthew Macfadyen’s Role
Macfadyen, known for his Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s “Succession,” will join a distinguished group of actors who have portrayed Smiley on screen, including Gary Oldman, Rupert Davies, Alec Guinness, and Denholm Elliott.

The Ink Factory, founded by le Carré’s sons Stephen and Simon Cornwell, has a history of adapting le Carré’s works into successful series and films. Notable productions include “The Night Manager,” “The Little Drummer Girl,” and “A Most Wanted Man”.
