Sideral has secured the global distribution rights for The Van (“La Furgo”), a hybrid live-action and animation film directed by Eloy Calvo. The film is set to debut at the BCN Film Festival on April 26, with a theatrical release in Spain scheduled for June 20.
Produced by Teidees, an animation studio led by Marta Alonso and Sílvia Cortés, The Van is supported by RTVE, 3CAT, and the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC) and Crea SGR. The film is based on the comic book of the same name by Martin Tognola and Ramón Pardina.
Director Eloy Calvo shared his thoughts on Sideral’s involvement, likening it to fueling a journey: “Their support is the fuel we needed to take our story worldwide. We hope The Van resonates with audiences and leaves a lasting impression.”
The film follows Oso, a 45-year-old divorced man, played by Catalan Academy Gaudi Award-winning actor Pol López (Suro, See You in Another Life). Living in his van in Barcelona, Oso faces the challenges of rebuilding his life. Surrounded by quirky characters, his journey takes a dramatic turn when his ex-partner’s wedding forces him to confront his struggles. The Van is a heartfelt dramedy that tackles themes of instability, identity, and second chances.
Sideral’s María Oliva expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting the perfect timing for Catalan cinema: “Meeting Marta was serendipitous. At Sideral, we are thrilled to distribute this beautiful film, where Pol López shines, and Eloy’s direction is truly remarkable.”
Producers Marta Alonso and Sílvia Cortés also praised the partnership, saying, “After working with such a talented team, it feels natural for Sideral to join The Van’s journey. They are a distributor who invests passion and energy into the projects they choose and achieves great results.”
