Greta Gerwig, the director of the “Barbie” movie, recently unveiled that Timothée Chalamet harbors a sense of regret for not participating in the film, a sentiment he conveyed after paying a visit to the movie’s set.
During an interview with Hollywood First Look, Gerwig shared insights into Chalamet’s response following his brief stint on the film’s location. Apparently, Chalamet’s visit left him somewhat disheartened about his absence from the cast.
Gerwig further elucidated her efforts to incorporate Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, longstanding collaborators, into the film through cameo appearances. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts hindered their involvement.
“I tried to get them both in it,” Gerwig revealed. “I really did, and they both couldn’t do it. Although Timothée did come by the set and then said, ‘Oh, I should have been in this.’ And I was like, ‘I know! Why aren’t you in this?'”
The dynamic duo of Chalamet and Ronan previously took center stage in Gerwig’s critically acclaimed films “Lady Bird” and “Little Women,” both of which received accolades and Oscar nominations.
Gerwig went on to articulate the profound bond she shares with Chalamet and Ronan, likening them to her own kin. The absence of their presence on the “Barbie” film set evidently left an unusual void for Gerwig.
“It makes me feel like I’m without my — they feel like my children,” Gerwig conveyed during the interview.
Chalamet and Ronan are not the sole actors who were unable to join the ensemble of the “Barbie” film. Anne Hathaway and Gal Gadot were among those considered for roles in the summer blockbuster, yet they didn’t ultimately become part of the cast.
Since its theatrical release in July, the “Barbie” film has garnered immense success, crossing the significant milestone of $1 billion in box office revenue earlier this month.
