Miley Cyrus has dropped the first two tracks from her highly anticipated album Something Beautiful, including the songs “Prelude” and the title track. Alongside the releases, Cyrus has shared music videos for both tracks.
“Prelude” is a mostly spoken-word piece, accompanied by a growing electronic instrumental. In the song, Cyrus reflects on the contrasting nature of beauty, saying, “Like when following an image from a train, your eyes can’t keep the passing landscapes from being swallowed into endless distance,” and, “Like when holding a fistful of ashes, your hands can’t save the things that have already been dissolved into air.” The song’s closing lines seem to capture the essence of the track: “But the beauty one finds alone / Is a prayer that longs to be shared.”
The second track, Something Beautiful, was released just hours after “Prelude.” The song features a psych-pop chorus and a visually striking music video directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman, and Brendan Walter, with cinematography by Benoît Debie.
Cyrus collaborated with Shawn Everett, Michael Pollack, Jonathan Rado, and Maxx Morando to produce “Prelude,” while she co-produced “Something Beautiful” with Panos Cosmatos, Nick Spicer, Nate Bolotin, and Aram Tertzakian.
Something Beautiful, Cyrus’ ninth studio album, is set for release on May 30. It will include 13 original tracks and is described as a visual project. Cyrus and Everett, who have worked with artists like Kacey Musgraves and Alabama Shakes, are serving as the album’s executive producers. The album is available for preorder in multiple formats, including signed vinyl, CDs, limited-edition vinyl, and two special box sets featuring exclusive collectibles.
