Anjelica Huston has revealed that she fought cancer following her role in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which was released in 2019.
In an interview with People magazine, Huston shared that she successfully overcame the illness. “I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself,” she said. “It’s not something that came lightly.”
While she did not disclose the specific type of cancer, Huston described the diagnosis as a “big shock” that changed her perspective on life. “It made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go,” she explained. “One of those places was taking life too seriously. Now, I laugh more and try not to make a big deal out of things.”
Huston, who is now cancer-free, continues to undergo regular scans. “I’m at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me,” she said. “It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.”
The actress, best known for her role in The Witches, explained why she chose to speak out about her experience after keeping it private for six years. “Sometimes you don’t want to talk about it for obvious reasons, but there’s a lot to be said for getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one’s come through,” she said. “Life is tenuous and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is big and you can somehow match up to it.”
Huston, who has recently lent her voice to projects like The French Dispatch and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, said that when she learned she was cancer-free, she didn’t hold a celebration. Instead, she “just walked in my garden and smelled the roses and thought how clever I was.”
