A24’s Oscar-winning film The Brutalist will be available for streaming on Max starting May 16. The film, directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody, will also air on HBO linear on May 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Brody, who won his second Academy Award for Best Actor for his role, leads a cast that includes Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola. Jones was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, while Pearce received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The Brutalist garnered 10 Oscar nominations this year. It won three: Best Actor for Brody, Best Original Score for Daniel Blumberg, and Best Cinematography for Lol Crawley. The film was also nominated in categories including Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Production Design.
The film follows László Toth (Brody), a visionary architect who flees post-war Europe to start anew in America. Upon settling in Pennsylvania, Toth’s talent is recognized by industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Pearce). However, the path to success proves challenging, with Toth’s ambitions weighing heavily on his personal life and marriage to Erzsébet (Jones). The 3+ hour epic includes an intermission.
Corbet, who directed the film, also co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold. He produced the movie alongside Trevor Matthews, Nick Gordon, Brian Young, Andrew Morrison, Andrew Lauren, and D.J. Gugenheim.
