The drama Rebuilding, starring Josh O’Connor as a cowboy who loses his ranch to wildfires, has secured a U.S. distribution deal with Bleecker Street. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is set to hit theaters later this year.
Directed by Max Walker-Silverman, Rebuilding follows Dusty, a rancher who loses his home to fires and is forced into a FEMA camp. There, he unexpectedly reconnects with his estranged daughter and ex-wife while rebuilding his life alongside other survivors. The film also stars Lily Latorre, Meghann Fahy, Kali Reis, and Amy Madigan.
Variety’s chief film critic, Owen Gleiberman, praised O’Connor’s performance, calling him an “authentic presence” and noting his ability to convey the “quiet anguish” of his character. O’Connor, best known for his role in The Crown and the upcoming Challengers, portrays a man who has lost everything but finds hope in rebuilding.
This marks Bleecker Street’s second collaboration with Walker-Silverman, following the 2022 Sundance hit A Love Song, which also debuted at the festival.
Rebuilding’s international rights are being handled by Mk2 Films. The film’s producers include Jesse Hope, Dan Janvey, and Paul Mezey, with executive producers such as Josh Peters, Sakurako Fisher, and O’Connor. The deal was negotiated by Bleecker Street’s Miranda King and CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
In addition to Rebuilding, Bleecker Street has acquired U.S. rights to the cult classic This Is Spinal Tap and its sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The distributor’s upcoming slate also includes The Friend, starring Naomi Watts and Bill Murray, and the rom-com The Wedding Banquet, featuring Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang.
