Mikey Madison has chosen not to join the cast of Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film, marking her decision to pass on a major project following her Oscar nomination.
Sources tell Variety that Madison was offered a role in the untitled Star Wars movie, which will be directed by Deadpool and Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy. However, negotiations have ended, and Madison, known for her role in Anora, has declined the offer.
The film’s screenplay is written by Jonathan Tropper (This Is Where I Leave You, The Adam Project), and it will star Ryan Gosling. Levy, who has been developing the project since late 2022, will also produce the film under his 21 Laps company, in collaboration with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
This new film is said to be a standalone story set outside of the Skywalker Saga, which concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Details about the plot remain undisclosed for now.
The untitled movie will follow The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first Star Wars film to be greenlit in over five years. It is set to be released on May 22, 2026.
Madison, 26, is known for her roles in the FX series Better Things and films such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Scream 5. However, it was Sean Baker’s Anora that marked a significant turning point in her career, as it was the first project she didn’t need to audition for.
Reflecting on her career, Madison shared in a podcast interview before the Oscars, “I was scrolling through my Dropbox the other day and saw hundreds of auditions I’ve done — so many hours of work. But then, everything that came after was extremely difficult.”
Despite the challenges, Madison’s performance in Anora impressed Academy voters, and her next project is eagerly awaited.
