Gravitas Ventures has secured U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for the thriller What We Hide, set to debut on digital and cable video-on-demand in August.
Written and directed by Dan Kay, the film stars Mckenna Grace, Jojo Regina, Dacre Montgomery, Malia Baker, Jesse Williams, Forrest Goodluck, and Fernanda Andrade. The story centers on sisters Spider (Grace) and Jessie (Regina), whose mother dies from a drug overdose. To avoid being separated by the foster care system, the girls hide her body. Jesse Williams plays a sheriff investigating the case, while Montgomery portrays the mother’s drug dealer.
Kevin Scheid, sales manager at Gravitas Ventures, expressed excitement about the release, highlighting the emotional impact of the film. “This devastating thriller shines a light on the effects of substance abuse on families and communities. McKenna Grace, Jojo Regina, and Jesse Williams deliver impressive and heartfelt performances,” Scheid said.
Producers for the film include Joseph Restaino and Tony Stopperan of Hungry Bull Productions, Jeff and Yaniv Hoffman of Above the Clouds, and Kay and Dan Sima.
Kay also spoke about the film’s deeper message, noting the tragedy of children who lose both parents to addiction. “The epidemic of drug addiction is widely discussed, but the impact on children, known as ‘opioid orphans,’ is often overlooked. I’m grateful to have found a home for our film with the passionate team at Gravitas Ventures,” he said.
What We Hide had its world premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
