The children and family of Sinéad O’Connor have expressed their gratitude for the support received in the month following the musician’s demise.
In a statement provided to The Irish Times, O’Connor’s children have shared their feelings of “sorrow” and provided an update on her funeral arrangements and final resting place. The singer’s family confirmed her passing at the age of 56 on July 26.
The statement began by acknowledging the countless individuals who extended their sympathies and condolences to Sinéad’s family. The children conveyed their appreciation for the generous support they received during this challenging time.
The statement further recognized the individuals who played roles in O’Connor’s funeral held on August 8 at the Garden in Deansgrange Cemetery. Among those acknowledged were President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina Coyne.
The family also expressed gratitude to Powerscourt House, where a celebration of Sinéad’s life took place, attended by her music friends who provided solace during this period of grief. The statement extended appreciation to Colliers Funeral Directors and the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust for their contributions to bringing Sinéad’s body back to Ireland.
The statement concluded by thanking the media for their respectful coverage and the fans who participated in the moving funeral procession past Sinéad’s former home in Bray, as well as for the outpouring of love and affection from around the world since her passing.
Sinéad O’Connor was catapulted to pop stardom with her 1987 debut album “The Lion and the Cobra.” At the time, she was already a mother to her oldest son, Jake.
In addition to Jake, O’Connor welcomed three more sons and a daughter with different partners. Her memoir “Rememberings” detailed her unique family journey and deep love for her children.
O’Connor’s children expressed their unique qualities and strong bond with their mother. Her memoir highlighted their accomplishments and individualities, describing them as intelligent, loving, and compassionate individuals.
The family faced tragedy in January 2022 when O’Connor’s 17-year-old son Shane died by suicide.
