“Chicago P.D.” is losing another member of its intelligence unit. Tracy Spiridakos, who plays Hailey Upton, will be leaving the show after season 11, multiple sources have confirmed to Variety.
It is unknown how many episodes she will appear in next season.
Spiridakos joined the NBC procedural in Season 4, initially as a recurring character. She was promoted to series regular in Season 5 and has appeared in 127 episodes. Her character has also appeared in the spin-offs Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and FBI.
The departure comes one season after Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Upton’s husband Jay Halstead, decided to leave the show after 10 years. In season 10, Jay left for an Army assignment in Bolivia and decided to extend his trip and not return to his wife.
There’s a chance Soffer could return for a cameo before Spiridakos leaves, as he told Variety last February that the door was “definitely not” closed.
“Never say never. I feel so bad for the fans who are like, ‘Is he coming back?’ ‘What’s he going to do?’ ‘What’s going on with him and Hailey?” he said at the time. “I like to think – and I hope the fans think – that he’s just in another country right now, doing what he does best and making the world a safer place. In a family sometimes somebody moves away or goes to college somewhere else. I still love it. I still love the fans. And I still love Halstead. Halstead will always be in my blood. That’s never going to change.
Season 10 of Chicago P.D. ended with Adam Ruzek’s (Patrick Flueger) life on the line; he was shot and rushed to the hospital after losing a lot of blood. Season 11 does not yet have a premiere date as it has been delayed by the strikes. The SAG strike is still ongoing, but the writers were able to return to work earlier this month. Gwen Sigan will return as showrunner.
“Chicago P.D. is produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
