CBS has tapped stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson to host its new late-night franchise After Midnight. The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert, who announced Tomlinson during Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Tomlinson then discussed the news with Colbert on stage.
Tomlinson’s most recent TV credits include her Netflix comedy specials Look At You and Quarter Life Crisis.
As announced earlier today, “After Midnight” will launch in early 2024 in the time slot previously occupied by “The Late Late Show with James Corden”. It’s based on “@midnight,” which followed “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” from October 2013 to August 2017, and was a panel series featuring mostly guest comedians interacting with host Chris Hardwick.
Earlier this year, Tomlinson sealed a deal with Netflix to premiere her next two stand-up specials on the streamer. Tomlinson taped her latest special in Washington, D.C., for a premiere date in 2024.
Tomlinson saw her star rise in 2020 when “Quarter-Life Crisis” was released on Netflix just before the pandemic began. Meanwhile, Tomlinson says she’s still working on a Village Roadshow Pictures film based on her upbringing, which she’s co-writing with Taylor Tetreau and will star in for director Paul Weitz.
Jack Martin, showrunner on all four seasons of @midnight, and Eric Pierce will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Comedian and writer Jo Firestone will serve as co-executive producer and head writer. Alexx Wells will also serve as co-executive producer.
The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert, Carrie Byalick, President of Spartina Industries, Tom Purcell, Executive Producer of The Late Show, Evelyn McGee Colbert and James Dixon of Dixon Talent. Joining the Spartina team are Funny Or Die executive producers Joe Farrell, Mike Farah, Whitney Hodack and Henry R. Muñoz III. Serious Business’ Jason U. Nadler, who co-created @midnight, is also an executive producer.
