The MonsterVerse returns for its fifth instalment with the new trailer for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”. The film follows Legendary Pictures’ 2021 release “Godzilla vs. Kong,” directed by Adam Wingard, who returns to direct this upcoming monster movie.
Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle reprise their 2021 roles as Dr Illene Andrews, Bernie Hayes and Jia respectively. The film also stars franchise newcomers Dan Stevens and Fala Chen.
The New Empire’s official synopsis reads: “This latest entry follows the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal, undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve deeper into the history of these titans, their origins and the secrets of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that forged these extraordinary beings and forever linked them to humanity”.
The New Empire is the 38th film in the Godzilla franchise, which began in Japan in 1954 with Ishirō Honda’s Godzilla. It is also the 13th film in the King Kong franchise, which began in the US with RKO Picture’s 1933 original.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is written by Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett, with Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull and John Jashni serving as producers. The creature feature is scheduled for release on 12 April 2024.
