The sixth season of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows will be its last.
The series, created by Jemaine Clement and based on his and Taika Waititi’s 2014 film of the same name, will premiere in 2019. In mockumentary format, it follows the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, the Guide (Kristen Schaal).
In Season 5, which concluded in August, Nandor feels that Guillermo is slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo, whose skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to unravel the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is undergoing.
Executive producing “What We Do in the Shadows” are Clement, Waititi, showrunner Paul Simms, Stefani Robinson, Sam Johnson, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush. The series is produced by FX Productions.
Since its debut, the show has received 21 Emmy nominations, winning for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes in 2022. This year, it won Best Comedy Series at the GLAAD Media Awards.
In 2022, after the show was renewed for a fifth and sixth season, Robinson and Simms said they’d have to answer the biggest question before the show could end – “What would happen to Guillermo?”
“I think it depends on that,” Robinson said after Season 4, referring to the vampires’ bodyguard who is also a vampire hunter. In season 5, however, he became a vampire.
