Wrexham, a League Two football club, has disclosed that it owes approximately 9 million pounds ($11.36 million) to its celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Welsh club, acquired by the actors in 2021, recently unveiled its financial accounts for the fiscal year ending in June 2023. This revealed a notable increase from the previous year, where the club owed its owners nearly 4 million pounds.
Despite reporting a substantial 75% rise in revenue, climbing to 10.5 million pounds from 6 million pounds, Wrexham’s financial situation also saw a deepening loss, escalating to 5.1 million pounds from 2.9 million pounds.
In response to these figures, Wrexham issued a statement emphasizing that the club is not facing immediate pressure to repay these loans at the expense of their ongoing progress. The statement further outlined plans for additional financial support to back the club’s capital expenditure projects.
Wrexham’s recent successes on the field have been notable, with the club earning promotion to the English Football League’s League Two as champions of the National League in the 2022–23 season. Currently positioned third in League Two, Wrexham is actively contending for further advancement to the third-tier League One.
