Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden’s children stole the spotlight on Britain’s Got Talent by pressing the golden buzzer as the series’ auditions concluded.
The ITV talent show aired on Sunday, featuring judges Cowell, Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli, along with hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. The episode showcased the last batch of hopefuls vying for a spot in the semi-finals.
Japanese skipping dancers Haribow impressed the judges with their acrobatic tricks and left them nearly speechless. The audience gave a standing ovation and clamored for a golden buzzer, typically reserved for judges and hosts to use.
Dixon and Tonioli had already used their buzzers, and Cowell was at a loss for words. “My son is literally going crazy right now,” Cowell said, as his son Eric, joined by Holden’s daughter Hollie, pushed the buzzer. Holden remarked, “They pressed it for the audience,” and praised the dancers as “unbelievable.”
Donnelly noted, “That’s never happened before,” congratulating the dance troupe.
In another segment, actor and comedian Dave Bibby attempted to break a record by having custard pies thrown at him by McPartlin and Donnelly. However, it turned out to be a prank orchestrated by Cowell, who gleefully threw custard pies at the hosts. Donnelly laughed, saying, “Dave, you had us.”
Other acts advancing to the next stage included Midlife Movers, a dance group; nine-year-old magician Ella Rose from Tamworth; and recorder player Richard Lindesay, 45. Dancer Leightonjay Halliday, 23, from the Scottish village of Douglas, performed a water dance to Kodi Lee’s “Change,” earning high praise. Dixon said, “Even if we took away the water, the dance would go through,” while Cowell promised to tell America’s Got Talent star Lee about the incredible audition.
American sword swallower Heather Holliday, 38, received a standing ovation for her daring act of swallowing multiple swords. Cowell complimented her “star glow” and called her performance “unbelievable.” Both Heather and Leightonjay moved forward in the competition.
However, the Radetzky Quartet from the Netherlands, who combined music with slapstick comedy, did not progress to the next round.
Britain’s Got Talent returns for the live semi-final on Monday at 8 p.m.
