Will Smith has undergone a profound transformation, sharing his journey in Berlin after the Oscar incident two years ago.
Two years after his controversial moment at the Oscars, where he slapped Chris Rock, actor Will Smith, now 55, feels like he’s emerged from a challenging period, much like a butterfly. At a Berlin press conference for the European premiere of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” Smith spoke about the power of transformation and healing. “The ability to change, recover, and be reborn is one of the greatest human strengths,” he said. “Like a caterpillar breaking down and emerging as a butterfly.”
In 2022, Smith made headlines when he struck Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars over a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss due to a medical condition. Smith later apologized publicly for his actions, which resulted in a ten-year ban from Academy events.
While promoting “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” Smith appeared more relaxed. He mentioned it was harder to get in shape for this action film compared to previous ones. “It took six months instead of three,” he joked, attributing the delay to his age and love for donuts.
“Bad Boys” Through the Years
In “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” Smith and co-star Martin Lawrence, 59, born in Frankfurt/Main, return as Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. This is their fourth film in the “Bad Boys” series, which began in 1995 with “Bad Boys – Harte Jungs.” Subsequent installments were released in 2003 and 2020.
In “Ride or Die,” which will be released in German theaters on June 5, the duo investigates a corruption scandal but gets entangled in a larger conspiracy, forcing them into hiding.
