Goldberg stars in Goldwyn’s new movie “Ezra” alongside Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Robert De Niro.
Whoopi Goldberg didn’t hesitate when she accepted an offer from her “Ghost” co-star Tony Goldwyn to star in his new movie “Ezra.” She didn’t even read the script before agreeing.
Goldwyn reunited with Goldberg on Tuesday’s episode of “The View.” He appeared on the show with his stars Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale. The movie “Ezra” features Byrne and Cannavale as parents raising an autistic son and taking him on a long road trip.
Cohost Sara Haines, who often expresses her admiration for Goldberg’s work in “Ghost,” asked Goldwyn how the reunion came about, 34 years after they worked together in the 1990 film.
“I literally just emailed her. Bobby and I were talking about the movie and we thought, ‘You know who’d be amazing as Jane, Bobby’s character’s manager? Whoopi.’ So, I sent Whoopi an email saying, ‘Hey, I’m doing this movie with Bobby and Bob De Niro, there’s this part you’d be perfect for. Can I send you the script?'” Goldwyn recalled. “She wrote back immediately saying, ‘I’m in, just tell me where to show up.’ I asked, ‘Don’t you want to read the script?’ She said, ‘No, I’m there. Just tell me where to go!'”
Goldberg, who won an Oscar for her role in “Ghost” as a medium communicating with Patrick Swayze’s spirit, praised Goldwyn as “a wonderful partner” to work with on screen.
“If he says he’s got something, I don’t care how other people respond to it. I’m there,” Goldberg confirmed on “The View.” “The vibe of the film was like, yeah, I want to be part of this. People don’t usually ask me. So, when somebody says ‘Hey, you want to come play?’ It’s like, yes!”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Ghost” co-star Demi Moore shared her thoughts on a potential remake. Channing Tatum announced in 2023 that he planned to film a contemporary interpretation of the movie.
“Look, every story in some ways has already been told. The wonderful thing is the different way things can be reinterpreted,” Moore told EW while promoting her Cannes hit “The Substance.” “I think there are some films that often are better left not touched, and then sometimes there are wonderful surprises in that reinterpretation.”
